In response to Cabinet’s resolution to eliminate the national backlog on title deeds, our HDA Limpopo team assisted the Cohgsta Limpopo and Molemole Local Municipality to handover title deeds to the community members of Dendron on 19 April 2024.
The event, graced by the presence of MEC for Cohgsta, Mr Basikopo Makamu and His Excellency, Mayor Masilo Edward Paya, marked a pivotal moment as beneficiaries in Dendron, Extension 4, received their long-awaited title deeds. Facilitated by the HDA on behalf of Coghsta, the process involved opening the township register and transferring erven to approved beneficiaries in Dendron Ext.4. The successful registration of the township – comprising 520 erven including public amenities – at the Deeds Office signifies a significant step forward to eradicate the backlog. To date, 325 title deeds have been issued to rightful owners in this project.
This engagement not only showcased the HDA’s adeptness in supporting government bodies with professional services related to human settlements but also underscored its role in assisting municipalities and provincial departments to meet the demands of providing sustainable human settlements services to communities.
This comes after Human Settlements Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi also made a call on public servants, and representatives together with relevant institutions, to “work around the clock to fast-track the processing and issuing of title deeds to the rightful beneficiaries, emphasising that no title deeds should be kept in government offices.” This, she mentioned at the Launch of the inaugural Title Deeds Friday, last year in October at an even in Pretoria.
In his speech to the recipients, MEC Basikopo Makamu iterated the words of the Minister who indicated to communities that “a phased approach has been adopted to avoid keeping communities waiting due to red tape and intergovernmental disputes.” She further underscored that “We have declared a war on the title deeds backlog and this is important particularly as the President emphasised a need to get rid of red tape within the State. He iterated that this is an important document that proves that this property belongs to you.
One of the owner and beneficiary Ms Georgina Sefolo, was elated to receive a title deed and said “I am very delighted to received this title deed, I spend years wondering what could happen if someone can come and claim my house? I would not have any document to present as proof of ownership of this house. Today I received this and I am a proud owner.”
