Reside Summit: HDA Participates in Reside Summit: Pioneering Sustainable Housing Solutions

Background: The Reside Summit, of which the HDA is a proud Sponsor and partner of, is an annual summit that brought together key stakeholders in the housing and human settlements sector to discuss innovative solutions, share knowledge, and forge partnerships aimed at addressing the housing challenges in South Africa. It is an opportunity to bring together the entire residential value chain to share knowledge, collaborate and do business. With a mission to bridge the gap between governmental stakeholders and the private sector, Reside actively works towards breaking down barriers hindering the progress of residential projects. The event attracts policymakers, industry experts, academics, developers, and representatives from non-governmental organisations. The theme for this year’s summit was “Sustainable Urban Living: Innovations and Solutions for Housing Challenges.”

The event was also supported by South African Local Government Association (SALGA), Financial Institutions (FNB, ABSA, Standard Bank etc), Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority (PPRA), Department for Building and Human Settlement Development, Nelson Mandela University, Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA), National Housing Finance Corporation (NHFC), Consulting Engineers of South Africa (CESA), South African Association of Consulting Professional Planners (SAACPP), South African Institute of Black Property Practitioners (SAIBPP), CSOS (Community Schemes Ombud Service) to mention a few.

An address by the Chairperson of Human Settlements & Urban Agenda National Working Group, SALGA, Councillor Xolani Sotashe opened the first day of the conference, which was followed by other related presentations. Critical to the HDA was the Panel discussion held, to, amongst other issues, provide a comprehensive overview of the current landscape and future prospects of housing development in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape. These aimed at highlighting the unique investment opportunities and challenges in each region. The panel also aimed at fostering a collaborative approach to addressing South Africa’s housing needs and promoting sustainable regional growth.
