Quality TRAs are being built in Phillipi (TRA 5 and TRA 5.1) by the HDA for temporary relocations of non-qualifiers as well as beneficiaries on the N2 Gateway Project.
Two Johannesburg Inner City buildings were purchased by the HDA to support affordable rental housing in accordance with Outcome 8 and the urban renewal initiatives of the City of Johannesburg.
The HDA with the Western Province and City of Cape Town, are producing and distributing fliers to affected N2 Gateway communities updating them about the progress of various projects, namely Boystown, Delft Symphony and Joe Slovo informal settlement upgrade. These fliers will become a monthly communications tool to keep communities informed about project progress and important events. Monthly community newsletters are also being produced and distributed.
The HDA co-hosted three workshops in May and June profiling informal settlements and solutions for emergency housing. These best-practice workshops are becoming a regular and well-supported feature on the HDA events calendar and they present a great opportunity for practitioners to meet and evaluate their practice. The Agency is trying to establish a network of collaboration in order to share ways of doing things to achieve optimal results.
The HDA’s multi-purpose community centre at Soweto-on-Sea is complete. Innovative elements were introduced including a wind turbine to generate power for the main hall and holding tanks for water.
