The HDA has identified and prioritised a further 23 567.7257ha of public owned land. This includes land owned by state enterprises such as Transnet and Denel.
The shift is now towards identifying properties situated within built-up areas to ensure that challenges experienced with bulk service availability, urban consolidation and infill are minimised. However, in doing so, rural housing needs are not ignored.
Feasibilities and assessments are undertaken to establish development feasibility of identified public land. The HDA offers services in facilitating the release of state land, which is aimed at addressing the challenges municipalities and provinces experience in accessing public owned land, primarily for human settlements development.
The agency is optimistic that relevant state departments will release the identified and requested properties timeously, to not only ensure compliance with outcome 8 imperatives, but also to accelerate delivery of human settlements in the country.
