HDA assists provinces to accelerate handover title deeds

 

In response to Cabinet’s resolution to eliminate the national backlog on title deeds, our HDA Limpopo team assisted the Cohgsta Limpopo and Molemole Local Municipality to handover title deeds to the community members of Dendron on 19 April 2024.

The event, graced by the presence of MEC for Cohgsta, Mr Basikopo Makamu and His Excellency, Mayor Masilo Edward Paya, marked a pivotal moment as beneficiaries in Dendron, Extension 4, received their long-awaited title deeds. Facilitated by the HDA on behalf of Coghsta, the process involved opening the township register and transferring erven to approved beneficiaries in Dendron Ext.4. The successful registration of the township – comprising 520 erven including public amenities – at the Deeds Office signifies a significant step forward to eradicate the backlog. To date, 325 title deeds have been issued to rightful owners in this project.

It is an opportunity to bring together the entire residential value chain to share knowledge, collaborate and do business. With a mission to bridge the gap between governmental stakeholders and the private sector, Reside actively works towards breaking down barriers hindering the progress of residential projects. The event attracts policymakers, industry experts, academics, developers, and representatives from non-governmental organisations. The theme for this year’s summit was “Sustainable Urban Living: Innovations and Solutions for Housing Challenges.”

Mandela Day Celebration at Bathabeleng Children’s Home: HDA and Human Settlements Join Hands

 

On Mandela Day, an impactful event took place in Alexandra, focusing on community upliftment through the collaboration of The HDA, Human Settlements Department and various entities in partnership with the local municipality (Ekurhuleni Metro). The event aimed to honor former President, Nelson Mandela’s legacy by contributing to the betterment of living conditions in one of Johannesburg’s most underprivileged areas.

This year marks the 11th anniversary of Madiba’s passing in December 2013. To commemorate this, the Nelson Mandela Foundation has themed the 11-Year Remembrance call to action “The Legacy Lives on Through You”.

HDA takes part at the GCIS Government Exhibition Day, at Mafikeng, North West

 

This activation, where the HDA took part in, was part of the annual activations that was organised by The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) in the Northwest province. This is one of the biggest government exhibition that saw many citizens being informed about the work that government is doing across the country as well as receiving on the move services. It was graced by the presence of the newly appointed MEC responsible for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs in North West Province, Mr Gaoage Oageng Molapisi.

Inaugural CSOS Indaba 2023: Transformation in Community Schemes

 

The Community Schemes Ombud Services (CSOS), an entity of the Department of Human Settlements,  held its first-ever Indaba on 3-4 August 2023, under the theme “Governance and Regulation: Shaping the Future of Community Schemes” in Gauteng. It aimed to inform trustees, community scheme homeowners, managing agents and other property stakeholders about the role of CSOS, compliance with community scheme legislation, and dealing with common issues in community schemes. The Indaba discussed and debated issues affecting the sector, including the impact of load shedding and water security, the role of trustees in transforming community schemes, the challenges of managing diversity in community schemes, and the importance of education and awareness in the community schemes sector. The Indaba also featured several workshops and presentations on specific topics related to community schemes.

Eastern Cape’s drive for sustainable human settlements: Human Settlements Indaba 2023

 

In order to accelerate service delivery and address the housing backlog in the Eastern Cape, the Eastern Cape Human Settlements hosted a three-day human settlements Indaba from 05-07 July 2023. This event took place at the Nelson Mandela University in Gqeberha, where key stakeholders from various sectors came together under the theme, “Accelerating the delivery of sustainable integrated human settlements in the Eastern Cape through collaborations and partnerships: Leaving No One and No Place Behind.”

HDA and Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements conducted a sod-turning ceremony, after unblocking a housing project

 

On July 11, 2023, the HDA and the Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements (ECDHS) jointly launched a human settlements project in Engcobo Ext 11, Dr. AB Xuma local municipality, after overcoming various challenges that impeded the project from commencing. The project is set to be completed by 2025 and will greatly improve the living conditions of 1,854 beneficiaries in the area by providing them with suitable housing. The project will also create job opportunities for many local villagers, thereby reducing unemployment rates and boosting the local economy.
