In April and May this year, HDA informal settlement upgrading support work, under the watchful eye of Maki Thellane, HDA manager: programmes and technical support services, has been focused on the roll-out of nine pilot projects in three provinces: North West, the Northern Cape and the Free State.
The HDA, together with the Department of Human Settlements, facilitated a two-day introductory informal settlement upgrading capacity-building workshop in Limpopo on 25 and 26 June. The provincial department head of CoGSTA, Ms Nnana Manamela, opened the second day of the workshop with an introduction to poverty issues.
As a member of the International Geospatial Society and the Global Spatial Data Infrastructure, Karishma Busgeeth (HDA spatial information and data manager) was invited to attend atraining seminar on Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and land management at the International Centre for Land Policy Studies and Training (ICLPST) in Taiwan from 20 March to 2 April 2013.
After a long period of negotiation an implementation protocol (IP) between the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Human Settlements and the HDA was concluded in January 2013.
