The Housing Development Agency (HDA) is a national public sector development agency that inter alia has the mandate to identify, acquire, prepare and develop suitable land for human settlements. The Agency also undertakes the programme and project management for development of housing and human settlements. The HDA carries out its functions in partnership with a range of stakeholders including national, provincial and local government as well as with communities, developers and financiers. Established in 2009, the Agency was established by an Act of Parliament in 2008 and is accountable through its Board to the Minister of Human Settlements.

The HDA has the following: Six (6) Month Temporary contract position.

Temporary Website and Intranet Developer: Specialist

Location: Head Office – Johannesburg

Reporting Line: Manager: Marketing and Communications

Ref: HDAWIDS01

Main Purpose: To drive the overall implementation of the HDA’s Communications Strategy through websites development and maintenance (designing, coding, development, maintenance of the HDA’ intranet systems and modifying websites, from layout to function) and create visually appealing sites that feature user-friendly design that is secure and have clear navigation.

Key Performance Areas:

1. Websites development and maintenance

• Write well-designed, testable, efficient code by using best software development practices.

• Create website layout/user interfaces by using standard HTML/CSS practices.

• Integrate data from various back-end services and databases.

• Gather and refine specifications and requirements based on technical needs.

• Create and maintain software documentation.

• Be responsible for maintaining, expanding, and scaling our site.

• Stay plugged into emerging technologies/industry trends and apply them into operations and activities.

• Cooperate with web designers to match visual design intent.

2. Intranet development and maintenance

• Develop, maintain, and enhance the company’s intranet platform.

• Collaborate with IT staff, content creators, and stakeholders to ensure the intranet meets user needs.

• Ensure intranet content is up-to-date, relevant, and accessible.

• Integrate intranet with other internal systems and databases.

• Implement intranet features that promote collaboration, information sharing, and employee engagement.

• Troubleshoot and resolve intranet-related issues.

• Ensure the intranet is secure and data is protected.

3. Content management of the HDA web site and social media

• Supervision and preparation of the content for the HDA web site ensuring consistency of the materials.

• Monitors the effectiveness the HDA social media.

4. Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in website and intranet development.

• Diploma in Graphic design or Web design.

• Degree in Bachelor of Computer Science will be an added advantage.

• Experience with SEO best practices.

• Proficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and any other JS Framework (React, Vue).

• Knowledge of at least one programming language like PHP, ASP.NET, or Java.

• Experience with database systems like MySQL, SQL Server, or MongoDB.

• Experience with responsive and adaptive design.

• Strong problem-solving skills and analytical abilities.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Experience with user experience (UX) design principles.

• Exposure in a corporate IT environment.

• Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, excellent knowledge and experience in handling web-based management systems.

Remuneration: R37 775.00 per month (all-inclusive package)

Period: Six months
