The HDA hosted a Neighbourhood Development workshop on 6 September 2011 at the Sunnyside Park Hotel in Johannesburg.
The HDA attended a Forum on Future Cities at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts on 12 and 13 April. The event, hosted by MIT’s SENSEable City Lab brought together leading thinkers in academia, industry and government from around the world to discuss pressing issues of urbanisation and to explore how new technologies are impacting on solutions to the problems.
The HDA has been instrumental in setting up a Joint Coordinating Committee on State Land Release to coordinate the release efforts of the custodian departments. The first meeting took place on 24 June.
The HDA spent the week of 11 to 14 July in Limpopo visiting municipalities and provincial sector departments, as well as housing projects, and land and buildings, identified for future development. The purpose of the visit was to identify key supporting functions and programmes in the province that can be supported by the HDA in order to activate the Implementation Protocol signed in August 2010.
Cornubia has been declared a national priority project and Ncgebo Nkwanyana, the HDA’s Technical Support Manager: Projects and Programmes, has been in KZN assisting eThekwini metro with this large-scale mixed-use integrated development. The HDA’s role to date has largely been a facilitative one.
