The HDA, together with Development Works and the Socio Economic Rights Institute of South Africa (SERI), conducted a land tenure workshop in KwaZulu-Natal recently as part of a nationwide series of such events.
Workshops have so far been held in the Northern Cape, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal and the North West.
They address the challenge of informal settlements upgrading of land under tribal authority. They also provide an opportunity for stakeholders to make inputs into a consolidated document on land tenure that Development Works and SERI are producing.
Local municipalities were well represented, as were the provincial departments of Human Settlements and Rural Development.
