A Land Forum has been established to speed up the process of developing a Land Plan for human settlements development.
The forum – organised jointly by ourselves and the National Department of Human Settlements – met on 26 June to ensure alignment between our work and the land assembly initiatives of the various provinces and municipalities.
A key objective is to ensure we collectively meet government’s land assembly target of 10 000ha, and to align these land assembly plans with the Master Spatial Plan.
Our acting CEO, Thabane Zulu, stressed the importance of aligning the HDA's plans and targets with those of provinces and municipalities, and ensuring a collaborative approach.
“We must enhance synergies between the complementary processes,” he said in his opening address.
This was followed by subsequent presentations by the HDA staff on the Terms of Reference of the Land Forum, The Housing Backlog, Master Spatial Plan for Human Settlements and finally, a Coherent and Inclusive Approach to Land for Human Settlements Policy Framework.
The workshop highlighted that the HDA intends to go beyond land assembly and will participate more directly as a developer in various projects.
The following was agreed upon by the delegates:
Budgeting and funding for projects will also be part of the agenda.
