Our Northern Cape team is helping the Department of Mineral Resources to relocate 22 families from an asbestos-contaminated area in Heuningvlei as part of a legal settlement.
New homes are being built for the families, and the tribal authority’s facility is being upgraded.
The development area covers 2.5ha of land and falls within communal land in the Joe Morolong Local Municipality. The relocation will enable the affected households to become more integrated with the rest of the Heuningvlei community.
The HDA has completed preliminary investigations into the capacity of municipal services and is currently conducting an environmental impact assessment in the area.
It is anticipated that the project will be completed in February 2016.
