Gardens for Zanemvula

New homeowners in Chatty, part of the Zanemvula project, will be the first of many to benefit from a new greening project started in November last year.

Each house will receive fencing, a tree, a vegetable garden, a front garden, a JoJo water-tank and gutters. Funded by the Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements (ECDHS), the project will initially cover 170 houses in the Chatty 12 area, but will over time cover the whole of Chatty and then rollout to other parts of the Zanemvula project.

Spearheaded by the ECDHS and facilitated by theHDA, the greening project is intended to create a better living environment for new homeowners.

“We are excited to be involved in this innovative greening project and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the communities,” says Phakamile Ximiya, HDA Community Liaison and Development Manager.

The HDA is acting as facilitator between the ECDHS and communities, and “assisting is a pleasure, as such projects are a wonderful example of how integrated planning between different spheres of government can better the lives of many“, says Ximiya.
