The HDA has already been hard at work with Mpumalanga’s Mbombela Local Municipality in the first quarter.
The HDA hosted the Mbombela team on 7 May 2013 to talk about our services and the land assembly programme. Work has begun, and the municipality is eager to start the new financial year with the HDA on board.
Currently the municipality has a backlog of housing units, and wants to overcome this with the assistance of the HDA. It also indicated that it needs assistance with land matters for rental stock, to accommodate prospective students at a university soon to be built in the province.
Other issues that require attention include informal settlement upgrading, land tenure, land claims, etc. It was agreed that all these issues could be resolved in a holistic way, through a formal relationship between the municipality and the HDA.
