HDA participates in the Human Settlements Indaba

The National Human Settlements Indaba, organised by the NDHS, was held on 16 and 17 October at the Sandton Convention Centre. Over these two days, delegates from different entities in the sector converged with an objective of reviewing:

  • The progress in the implementation of the Breaking New Ground policy approved in 2004; identifying successes and gearing stakeholders for fast-tracked delivery of 1.5-million housing opportunities by 2019
  • The impact of the Social Contract for Rapid Housing Delivery signed in 2005, as well as challenges and successes and to commit stakeholders to a second social contract towards 1.5-million housing opportunities by 2019

Twenty-eight alternative technology organisations, seven human settlements entities and seven provincial departments were also invited to exhibit their work at the Indaba. The theme of the 2014 Indaba was “Building partnerships towards the delivery of 1.5-million housing opportunities by 2019”.

The sub-themes were: “Human settlements driving economic development” and ‘Towards a Master Spatial Plan for human settlements in South Africa”.
