Land release update

To date in excess of 68 000 hectares of publicly owned land has been identified by the HDA for human settlement development. The following land has been submitted for release and, in some instances, approved for release: A total of 13 598 hectares has been formally submitted for release from custodian departments.

• 1 068 hectares of land have been submitted to the Ministry of Public Works for approval, of which 756.925 hectares have been approved for release to the City of Johannesburg.

• 11.1351 hectares of land held by the provincial Department of Public Works in KwaZulu-Natal have been approved for release to the provincial Department of Human Settlements – transfer has yet to take place.

• 4 142.062 hectares of state land in North West province (Rustenburg and Madibeng municipalities) are at advanced release stages, by the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform, for human settlements and tenure upgrading. • 295.2602 hectares of well-located privately owned land in Ventersdorp are at advanced release stages to the HDA for integrated sustainable human settlements.
