President Zuma hands over houses at N2 Gateway project

President Jacob Zuma officially opened the N2 Gateway Presidential Project and handed over houses to beneficiaries on 15 October 2015 at an event attended by hundreds of community members. In his address Zuma said, “When completed, we believe that this project, and many others similar to it, will make a dent in the housing backlog.”

We believe that this dent has already been made, with over 12 000 homes completed and handed over since the project commenced in 2005.

To have the project acknowledged by South Africa’s Head of State was indeed affirmation for the HDA team, and was reinforced by the recent announcement by Minister Sisulu that elevated our role to that of “developer” on the project. The Agency was appointed in 2009 as implementing agent on the project and since then the team has worked tirelessly and with enormous commitment on one of the biggest and most complex housing projects in the country. Although the project has been beset by conflicts and difficulties, through a collaborative effort the HDA and its partners were able to address the challenges and greatly improve management of the development process.
