Representatives from the Free State Province and the Xhariep Municipality Disaster Management Team visited the PE office and Zanemvula project on 26 and 27 November. Nicholas Tsewu welcomed Ms C Tlali, Chief Director Housing Performance & Management, Free State Department of Human Settlements, and the Xhariep team, Mr TC Chabe (manager: disaster management) and Mr Eugene Prince (coordinator: disaster management).
We began interacting with the Xhariep Disaster Management team in January 2012 to get a better understanding of the delivery of disaster management services. The purpose of the visit in November was to gain a better understanding of our role in implementing a large-scale project, namely the Zanemvula Multi-Purpose Community Centre, as part of Xhariep’s 2012/13 disaster management plan is to deliver a community centre.
The workshop included a presentation by our internal management team on lessons and experiences of the Zanemvula project, as well as a meeting with the Nelson Mandela Bay Disaster Management Team and a tour of their centralised safety and security control centre, followed by a visit to the Zanemvula multi-purpose centre.
