On 11 and 12 September, the HDA and the National Association of Social Housing Organisations (NASHO) hosted a two-day workshop, “Reviving Our Inner Cities: Social Housing and Urban Regeneration in South Africa”.
National Human Settlements Land Indices (NaHSLI) is catching on and taking a bigger role in rapidly identifying, analysing and prioritising suitable land at the HDA.
We’ve made a significant breakthrough in North-West Province, where we have been able to secure the release of four properties (nearly 6 000 hectares) to the Rustenburg and Madibeng municipalities.
The HDA has a register of identified state-owned land which we consider to be potentially well-located for human settlements. Over 35 000 hectares were identified in the previous financial year alone. From this register, various portions of land have been prioritised and formally submitted for release to custodian departments.
NUSP newsletters are being published every second month to keep stakeholders informed about the programme, as well as informal settlement upgrade projects and issues.
