State land release gains momentum

The Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform has released an additional number of state-owned properties totalling 318.6374ha.

The Agency was requested to facilitate release of these properties by the Mangaung metro, primarily for informal settlement upgrading purposes. Most of the properties are currently invaded by informal settlements, and the municipality is in the process of in-situ upgrading of the informal settlements.

“Mangaung Metro Municipality is very excited about the work of the Agency – We have been battling for many years to access these properties, and the Agency came in and facilitated the land release quicker than expected,” says Mr. Mpho Mokoena: Head: Human Settlements in Mangaung metro municipality.

Treasury approval has been received for the donation of the above properties and the Agency is currently facilitating signature of the required deeds of donation to ensure the properties are eventually registered in names of the Mangaung metro.

The Minister also recently approved the release of 100.6344ha of state land in Maluti-a-Phofung municipality for new human settlement development. The HDA also facilitated this release and we are currently facilitating transfer and registration of the properties in the names of the municipality.
