The HDA Free State office holds a successful human settlements strategy workshop in Bloemfontein

The HDA, together with the Free State Department of Human Settlements, is developing the Human Settlements Strategy that will guide the longer-term spatial investments perspective for the province.

A successful workshop was held in Bloemfontein on 13 March and facilitated by the HDA. The objectives of the workshop were to:

  • Involve key stakeholders (municipalities, sector departments, state-owned entities) in the development of the Human Settlements Strategy, that will inform the programming of human settlements projects in the province
  • Identify constraints impeding human settlements delivery in the province and develop strategies for eliminating or minimising them
  • Develop a roadmap that sets out the manner in which projects and programmes that are needed will be delivered

The workshop was attended by 43 delegates, including senior officials from the Free State Department of Human Settlements, the provincial Department of Water Affairs, the provincial Department of Rural Development, the provincial Department of Public Works, the Mangaung Metro electricity entity, CENTLEC, HDA senior management from head office, and senior officials from the Mangaung Metro and other municipalities in the province.

The provincial Department of Human Settlements as the owner of the strategy will drive the process going forward with the support of the HDA. The Free State HDA office will continue with consultative dialogues on other programme support areas with municipalities and key stakeholders, to share information, and provide guidance and support on an ongoing basis.
