The Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation has expressed concern at land invasions that have taken place in the City of Cape Town. The invasions, which appear to be orchestrated because of the simultaneous nature of these illegal acts, took place in Dunoon, Mfuleni, Strand, Khayelitsha and Kraaifontein.
With the help of the HDA and a private sector donor, a family of seven received two new temporary housing units (TRUs) during the month of May. The Nkabinde-Mabaso family, previously stayed in a mud house, which had collapsed on them a few years ago due to structural fragility, and later moved into an uninhabitable shack.
The officials of the Department of Human Settlements spent their 67 minutes of Mandela Day in Winterveldt, north of Pretoria distributing food packs and sanitizers to indigent households that Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, Lindiwe Sisulu has committed to restore their dignity through the provision of quality and descent housing units.
Government has allocated more than R2 billion to upgrade informal settlements in the hope of reducing Covid-19 infections through improved living conditions and better access to water and sanitation.
