The Limpopo Department of Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs has partnered with the HDA to, among other things, ensure accelerated delivery of sustainable human settlements in the province. The idea to establish the Agency was taken during the historic conference of the ruling party in Polokwane, Limpopo, in 2007.
The HDA, together with the Eastern Cape and the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, has produced the first two editions of a monthly community newsletter that is distributed to affected Zanemvula communities.
The HDA, on behalf of the Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements, is project-managing the upgrading and rectifying of government-built houses that were poorly constructed. The HDA is currently involved in a massive upgrading and rectification programme in five wards of Soweto-on-Sea and Veeplaas, and phase 1 of the project will see 2 500 units turned into decent homes.
The Zanemvula mega-housing project will deliver approximately 22 700 housing units. Chatty 1347 is almost complete. All sites are fully serviced, and out of the 1 347 houses to be built, there have been 1 059 contractor handovers to date.
The N2 Gateway project is a joint venture between the national government, the Western Cape government, the City of Cape Town and the HDA. The project aims to deliver 13 477 housing units and includes different housing types – rental, bonded, peoples housing process, building new ground and temporary relocation areas– in defined areas close to the N2 freeway in Cape Town.
