The President in his State of the Nation address on 11 February 2010 announced that the State will set aside 6 250 hectares of well-located, public-owned land for human settlements development. With the HDA’s key role being the identification, acquisition, holding, development and release of state-owned land, this pronouncement falls squarely on the Agency’s shoulders.
An estimated 3 000 kilometres of driving is behind the HDA team who spent the week of 7 to 11 February in the Free State visiting municipalities, housing projects and properties identified for future development.
Intergovernmental relations (IGR) and strategic alignment lays the foundation for the HDA’s assistance in the provinces and municipalities.
Last year in November, councillors and officials from eThekwini Metro Municipality visited the N2 Gateway project. The purpose of the visit was for the HDA to share lessons learnt from the mega housing project in order to inform eThekwini’s Cornubia integrated development project.
