Staff from the HDA’s Cape Town office have been sharing lessons learnt from the N2 Gateway relocations with the HDA’s Limpopo office and officials from the Limpopo Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA).
“If you want to know what’s happening in the human settlements arena, you should follow the squatters!” CEO Taffy Adler told the HDA workshop, “You need to monitor what they’re doing, where they’re settling and how they survive”.
The call for spatial restructuring and targeted investment by the public sector in strategic projects has gained momentum in recent months, with the publication of both the National Development Plan, and the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act.
The HDA land-holding portfolio is steadily growing.
All the hard work done by the HDA’s planners and land team has paid off, with Lonmin donating 50 hectares of land to the Rustenburg Municipality for human settlement development.
